Clouded by fear of unknown anti-GM lobby faces devil`s choice


Fear of the unknown about Genetically Modified foods cuts across all classes in Tanzania – the poor as well as the rich; the ignorant as well as the educated and elite; it also transcends the North-South divide.
 In typical stereotyping, Prince Charles of the UK royalty added the ‘Frankenstein’ label to public misconception.
But foods derived from genetically modified plants offer the best way out for an increasingly hungry world living under hostile farm environments, says national science laureate Dr Joseph Ndunguru.
In a keynote presentation at the seventh edition of the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology (OFAB –Tanzania chapter), Dr Ndunguru also rubbished all such concerns as being totally misplaced. Continue reading
